SCHOOL READINESS GROUPS
The School Readiness “Legendary Learners” Program is for children who are aged 4-6 years, who require assistance with transitioning to school.
Run by an experienced Occupational Therapist, early education teacher and provisional Psychologists, the School Readiness Program is a group based program designed to develop socially appropriate interactions, academics and independent daily living skills to support mainstream participation and inclusion of children attending school.

Kindergarten academics: with a strong focus on early literacy; including comprehension, receptive and expressive language

WHAT MAKES THIS PROGRAM UNIQUE?
- Program designed and run by Occupational Therapists, Early Education teachers and provisional psychologists with a strong focus on behaviour management.
- Individualised programming imbedded within a group format.
- Goals designed to encourage mainstream involvement and integration.
- Pre and post assessments to guide programming goals and evaluation of progress at completion.
- Evidence based literacy program incorporated within program to assist with language and literacy skills.
- Task analysis used to break down goals in to discrete and achievable learning steps.
- Data collected throughout program to monitor child’s learning and reduction of behaviours.
- Parents given weekly tasks to generalise the skills learnt within the groups.
- Visuals and reward systems will be tailored to each child.
WHAT WILL THE PROGRAM LOOK LIKE?
Program Development
Initial Assessment
Functional assessment of maladaptive behaviours, communication, social, play, self-help, literacy, numeracy and academic skills.
Initial baseline assessments (literacy, numeracy and fine motor)
Program Provision

Commencement of 8 weekly 2-hour group sessions.
Ongoing monitoring of child’s progress.
Post Program

Evaluation of child’s progress at completion of program.

Eligibility Criteria
In order to qualify for this service, your child must:
be aged between 4-6 years
be transitioning to primary school in 2022 or 2023
Program Details
Location: Gymea Bay Resource Centre
Time: Wednesday 2 – 4 pm
Start date: July 28th
End date: September 15th
An individualised initial assessment will be conducted prior to the program beginning. Appointments will be conducted at the child’s preschool or within the Little Legends clinic. Observation & initial assessment will be conducted over 1 hour.
